It’s almost 2 weeks, right?
I was traveling so couldn’t share anything last week (more details further) but I missed reading replies 😅
Now let’s talk about the real thing.
What are the charges for your services? 🤔
How do you decide?
Once you start a side project, you start getting many inquiries for your work. It’s natural.
Being new to the game, you first get blank. Then you start your research – obviously by asking others.
But freelancers tend to charge from Rs 500 to Rs 5L for the same piece of work. So how will you decide your rates? 😶
I keep it simple.
Avoid comparing with others.
Calculate your hourly rates based on what you earn. Just a division of your monthly income by your working hours in a month.
That’s your hourly rate 💸
Now add 50%-60% to that amount and multiply it by the number of hours you think you will take to complete that project.
Possibly more if you feel you’re underpaid at your current organization.
As a freelancer, you tend to make more money than full-timers because you don’t get employee benefits.
Using this method, you will stop comparing with others and strive to grow and compare with your older self.
Disclaimer: This is only if you are beginning your journey OR you are confused about your rates. Also, don’t treat this way as the only technique. I have just shared a simple way.
If you are a seasoned freelancer, thanks for reading the complete email in spite of it being completely irrelevant to you! 🙊
Most experienced freelancers know how to negotiate based on the value they provide.
TODAY’S ACTION ITEM FOR YOU
Calculate your hourly rate based on what I explained above. If you feel comfortable, you can share your numbers and we can discuss this further.
I am in touch with multiple founders, agency owners, and freelancers. It will be easier for me to refer if you share.
PROMOTE YOURSELF! ⚡
WHAT I DID THIS WEEK
Let me tell you about last week first.
I was on vacation and visited North East India – Darjeeling, Shillong, Siliguri, Guwahati, Cherrapunji, Nepal border, and Kaziranga. I got to see one-horned rhinos, elephants (their cute babies too), and lots of other animals 🙂
North East is beautiful, green, and cool. People are polite, food is good. I even got to be a part of their biggest festival – Bihu. What a coincidence! 😍
This week was all about clearing up things that I missed last week.
But I ended up doing 2 pending tasks that I was procrastinating on for months!
First, I bought a bigger earthen pot (matka) urgently because I broke my old water pot while cleaning it. Shit happens! 🙄
Second, I got new curtains for my windows as it’s getting too hot and sunny in the afternoons. Finally, my room is dark and cool now. 🌞
BOOK I AM CURRENTLY READING
I took a break from reading for those 10 days. Currently, I am reading “The Growth Hacking Book” which is a popular book about growth marketing.
It’s a collection of case studies of multiple business owners and marketers.
My friend, Rohan Chaubey, has co-authored it. So, of course, my review might get biased as I am connected to most of the contributors in that book. Let those reviews on Amazon speak for you 🙂
